Akismet Fails
Lately I have received several hilarious comments on the entry about Chip waddling on the floor. They were mixed in with my regular comments as awaiting moderation rather than spam, and they were just… wow. Off the top of my head, some were like this:
This is great and all, but what does this have to do with pointy forks in China?

I understand your opinion, but I don’t agree with it. I think it will take more time for me to ease into that view, but I’ll tolerate you for now.
Great review! Next time focus on something more awesome, like Transformers.
These are just what I remember and aren’t direct quotes, because I deleted them after the 20 minutes or so I spent laughing at them. I mean, really? Luckily, Akismet came out with an update today, so it should do its job better. Or at least, I hope so!
Otherwise, I’m on a major job hunt like woah. Also, this is the beginning of my college preparations here. I have my eye on a private university and, as I constantly pester friends about it, I feel like I have a good chance of getting in. Still intimidating as hell, but we’ll see. I have to make a portfolio and everything, so this should be interesting.
I’m Going Home!
Now that my floor is less cluttered, I’ve taken to putting Chip on the floor so he can have some free range time. He never really gets to walk around that much, and it’s absolutely adorable to watch him waddle around because his chunky backside shakes when he walks and he barely has any actual leg attached to his feet.
I don’t close his cage door when I take him out because he struggles when he’s in the air and his toes are incredibly sharp, which equals a stab fest on my arms. That, and I just don’t really care enough about that tiny detail.
Apparently Chip does, however, because last night (and today) I watched him wander right off the pad, sniff around, waddle straight over to his cage and jump in. Yes, he jumped in. Never mind that the cage door is two inches off the ground and guinea pigs have poor backs, but somehow he managed it. And he did it a couple times today too, which became rather annoying when I was trying to get him to eat some food that I laid out for him. Apparently he likes standing around in his own poop more.
All I know is, he’s cleverer than I gave him credit for. What else has he kept from me?!
Insert Maniacal Laughter Here
So, I’ve been fairly busy lately and getting down to serious business with my room. It was a complete disaster until mom came to me one day and offered to help me out by buying things to help organize it and stuff. If you looked at my room now compared to how it was before I think your jaw might just drop. It feels very open and clean now, an atmosphere the likes of which my room hasn’t quite seen since it was first built. I consider it done, though mom thinks it could do with some dusting and that the drawing table could be clearer. Whatever - it’s already ten times better than it was!
Other than that, I have a copy of Pokémon Leaf Green. At first the tiny graphics were killing me because I was so used to Diamond, but I’m getting used to it now that I’ve actually started playing it, whereas before I was just grabbing the starters for Diamond’s Pal Park. I’m having a lot of fun with it and it feels like I never left Red at all. I have decided that I will be giving every Pokémon I get in that game a nickname. Why don’t you try and guess who Hameln, Silver, Aero and Quinn are? A hint: I’m in Pewter City and I just beat Brock, so the Pokémon caught are all from the areas leading up to Pewter.
Oh, and I bought yet another fish on my recent shopping trip. His name is Midnight and he’s a dark blue violet crowntail with black and red fins. I feel guilty about it since anyone would’ve grabbed Midnight if they spotted him as opposed to one of the fish with a less attractive appearance. He and Regulus like flaring their gills at one another (yes, Regulus is finally doing it) and they’re both settled in their homes quite nicely. Yay fishies!
Regulus The Great
My last fish, Umbra, died a couple days ago. I’ll spare you from a long sappy post and will simply note that I loathe mosquitoes. I went to bury him and they commenced an aerial attack on me, so I didn’t get much time to say goodbye. I had thought he’d be my last one for awhile, because I wasn’t planning on getting anymore and quite frankly when they die it’s very heartbreaking. But mom came home from work yesterday to reveal, dun dun dun, a new fish for me. I grimaced at first, because even though most of my bettas last at least a year, I wasn’t quite over Umbra and I didn’t want to have to care for anymore living creatures when Chip is already so annoyingly persistent with attention. And of course dad didn’t make it any better when he asked mom what happened to my last fish, thinking I couldn’t hear him, “She forget to feed it?” He’s always thinking the worst of me, it seems.
But whatever. The fish is growing on me despite my initial dislike. He’s a very small, very colorful crowntail, and he’s mostly blue with scales that shine green, but he also has red and a bit of purple if I’m not mistaken. His eyes are also half icy blue and half dark blue, so he really does look rather cool. I’m not positive on his name yet, but I think I’ll call him Regulus, which means “little prince” and goes along nicely with my current Harry Potter addiction. Originally I was going to call him “Reginold” but I think of ruddy, chubby men when I encounter that name, so it was - no, just no. I’d have called him Severus, but I’d rather save that for a black, green and purple one. Anyway, yeah. Regulus seems to be getting along nicely in his new home, and mom says that he’s very lucky because several of the other fish were still floating dead in the water when she was in the store and that he was one of the few that were still flapping their fins along as if to say “YAY, I’M ALIVE!!!” We think he’s very young, especially since he doesn’t flare his gills yet, though that may just be because he’s not very dominant.
Deathly Hallows
I’ve been spending most of my time away from the computer diving into the Harry Potter books lately. I hadn’t really picked one up since July 21st, 2007 - the day Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows took the world by storm. I read it during that day so as to not be spoiled by other people, though I remember being so tempted to check out the Wikipedia article and see the spoilers. I think I rushed through the book when I was reading it because I wanted to read the final battle against Voldemort so badly. It’s also kind of hilarious, because my English teachers always used to tell us to ask questions while we read, and I thought it was kind of stupid to say something like that at the time; but now I ask myself things about the book as I read on.
At any rate, I’m amused that my obsession’s come back. I started reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix one night while it was on HBO because everything seemed very out of place in the movie and I felt ashamed that I couldn’t remember if several things were in the book or not. So I sat down and read it, and now I’m stuck in the books until the end of Deathly Hallows. I didn’t used to like J.K. Rowling’s writing style, finding it boring and slowing down the series even further, and often criticized it amongst friends, but as I reread it my opinion has changed: she’s actually very good. Granted I’m at the end of the series, so of course her style will have improved over the years, but the only thing that ever irks me is her dialogue construction. It’s nearly all he said, she said.
Right now I’m at the part where they’ve broken into Gringotts, gotten the Hufflepuff cup and jumped off the dragon into the water. It’s funny how they’ve only defeated one Horcrux by page 500, and then the end is totally rushed.
And I still can’t help but be completely angry at Ron. Ron’s never stood out to me as a character - good for comic relief and all, but when he abandons Harry and Hermione I still agree with Harry: “Did you think you’d be home to Mummy in time for Christmas?”
In other news, it’s raining constantly here. This is the sixth day in the row it’s rained.
I love the rain and all, but this much of it is incredibly annoying when it also happens to be muggy and the windows have to be closed. This is the wettest summer I’ve ever had.
